,,Ras Madrakah” 2008-2010 – text

< Back to project

This is a story about a small village situated on the south coast of the Sultanate of Oman, a place many refer to as ‘the end of the world’. This village is named Ras Madrakah. It was back in 2007 when I first visited it with my dear friend – Norbert.  The village looked like a settlement one may expect to find in any science fiction movie.

The wind was secretly blowing between small and rickety shelters with hundreds of cars wrecks abandoned by the local Bedouins and simple workers from Pakistan and India scattered around the place, adding to the specific feeling of that place.  Between 2008 and 2009 I came back to Ras Madrakah many times.

The local people accepted me and so I was able to create my stories about the village’s daily activities.  In February 2010 I photographed the local fishermen at work.  Fishing is Ras Madrakah’s major income and the most profitable one too.
